Anne Wölk

Born in 1982 in Jena, Germany
Lives and works in Berlin, Germany

Anne Wölk’s painting practice explores contemporary landscape as a perceptual and conceptual construct shaped by cosmology, digital imaging, and cultural memory. Her works engage with stellar phenomena, planetary surfaces, and atmospheric spaces, translating scientific and photographic source material into layered, luminous compositions.

Working with translucent glazes and depth-oriented light structures, Wölk develops paintings that oscillate between representation and abstraction. References to Romantic landscape traditions and photorealistic detail are subtly disrupted by gradients, fractures, and chromatic shifts that echo digital visual cultures and astronomical imagery. These strategies create spatial ambiguities in which notions of distance, scale, and time remain deliberately unresolved.

Anne Wölk was born in Jena, Germany. She received her MFA from the School of Art and Design Berlin and studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London. Her work has been exhibited internationally in museum, institutional, and gallery contexts, including solo exhibitions at CICA Museum, South Korea, and Casa de Cultura, Portugal. She lives and works in Berlin.
